1925 Norse American Issue

The flag flying from the mast of the Viking ship on Scott's #621 is American.  The vignette for this stamp came from a replica sailed from Norway for the U.S. 1893 World's Columbian Exposition.

Scott's #631 was produced on a rotary press and therefore has horizontal gum ridges.  The gum ridges help prevent the sheets from rolling.  Scott's #576 was printed on a flat press and did not have the gum ridges of rotary presses.  Flat press printings were stacked on top of each other so that specks of ink would often cling to the gum of the sheet just above.
