IMPORTANT INFORMATION

MINT Price List #31

Updated July 1, 2010

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Please note that each stamp is identified first by a lot number and then the Scott number.  The lot number identifies the exact stamp in our inventory.  When ordering please use both our LOT # and the Scott #.

Many lots are one of a kind.  Some lots will have several copies of the same stamp and condition.  For example, there are 12 copies of lot #2 xf world #1.  Please look over the INVENTORY UPDATE for lots no longer available.  We realize it will take you a little longer to check the INVENTORY UPDATE, but find that with its use you will not be ordering stamps that have been sold.

Occasionally used United States stamps will be included in this price list. Whenever used stamps are included the word USED in capital letters will be printed.  If you collect used U.S. stamps please request our used U.S. price list.  It is free to active collectors.

World's First Postage Stamp 1840

Stamp collecting was born in Great Britain on May 6, 1840 when Sir Rowland Hill instituted the prepayment of postage with the world's first adhesive postage stamp called the Penny Black.  Approximately 60,000,000 were issued which has allowed any collector to own their own world number one.  Scott's 2010 retail used VF price is $260.00.  Lots  1-2 are used Penny Blacks - The World's First Adhesive.

Local Stamps

Local Posts delivered letters to the Post Office for a fee usually of 1 cent and 2 cents for intercity delivery to an address. These businesses were put out of business by a Federal Act of 1861. Other local posts appeared occasionally thereafter but were quickly eliminated by court.
